Letters written by Alonzo G. Rich of the 36th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment to his family in Charlton, Mass., 1862-64. Rich's letters describe traveling on the ship Merrimack from Boston to Fort Monroe in Virginia; daily camp life, movement, and morale in Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee; and the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia, 1864.
